What the free debt assessment is

A free debt assessment is a short, confidential conversation about your debt. An advisor reviews what you owe and explains the options that may apply to your situation. You can ask questions, take your time, and decide nothing on the spot. It costs nothing, it is not a credit application, and starting it does not commit you to anything.

What happens after you click

The assessment is one step at a time, and you stay in control the whole way through.

  1. 1
Tell us your debt range. You start with a quick debt-range selector. No documents, no credit check, no commitment.
  2. 2
Talk it through with an advisor. An advisor reviews your situation and explains the options that may fit, in plain language. They will not pressure you or push you toward any one path.
  3. 3
Choose your next step. You decide what to do with a clear picture of your choices. There is no cost and no obligation.

What this is, and what it is not

Put simply, the assessment is a conversation, not a sales pitch. An advisor listens, explains, and points you toward the option that may suit you. That can be something simple, like a clearer budget or debt consolidation, or something formal, like a consumer proposal that a Licensed Insolvency Trustee would file.

To be clear about our role: DACL assesses your situation, explains your options, and refers you to the right professional when a formal solution is involved. We are not a Licensed Insolvency Trustee, a lender, a law firm, or a government program. Consumer proposals and bankruptcies can only be filed and administered by a Licensed Insolvency Trustee under the federal Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. Where one of those may fit, we explain it and connect you with a trustee.

What happens after I start?

You share your debt range, then talk with an advisor who reviews your situation and explains the options that may fit. You decide your next step. There is no cost and no obligation at any point.

Does DACL file my consumer proposal or bankruptcy?

No. Only a Licensed Insolvency Trustee can file a consumer proposal or a bankruptcy, under the federal Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. DACL reviews your situation, explains your options, and refers you to a trustee when a formal filing is the right fit.

Will starting this stop collection calls?

No. DACL cannot stop collection activity. A stay of proceedings, which pauses actions like wage garnishment, begins only when a Licensed Insolvency Trustee files a consumer proposal or bankruptcy. The assessment helps you understand which options may apply.
